Iztok District is located just to the east of Sofia city centre. Iztok is Bulgarian for East and, originally, Iztok was the most eastern part of Sofia. Now the capital has far extended to the east and includes districts such as Mladost and Druzhba. Iztok is probably a little to far to walk to Sofia city centre for most people, but it an ideal cycle ride as it is relatively flat, unlike most districts outside of the centre of Sofia.

To the northeast Iztok quarter borders with Tzarigradsko shosse Blvd. and Geo Milev quarter.
To the southeast is G. M. Dimitrov Blvd. and the Musagentitsa district.
To the southwest, Istok is neighbouring the Dianabad and Izgrev districts which are divided by Dragan Tsankov Blvd.
To the northeast is the east end of the Borisovata gradina which is the largest, and best maintained, park in the central Sofia.
Getting to Sofia Airport from Iztok
If your business entails a lot of flying, then buying or renting a property in Iztok is an excellent idea as Iztok is less than 15 minutes by car from Sofia Airport terminal 1 and 2.
The distance between Iztok and Sofia Airport is about 8 km, using boulevards “Brussels” and “Tsarigradsko Shosse”.
If you choose to use the modern Sofia Metro system, the best metro station near Iztok to start or end your journey is Joliot Curie.
Taxis in Sofia are incredible value for money and you should be able to travel to or from Sofia Airport to Iztok for about 6 Euros!

Tzarigradsko shosse Blvd to the Black Sea Coast
Tzarigradsko shosse Blvd is the start of the main A1 highway in Bulgaria. North east Iztok borders on Tzarigradsko shosse Blvd which is at the start of the dual carriage way A1 which ends in Burgas.
The A1 will also give easy access to Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Sliven, while if you want to travel to Turkey, you can exit the A! between Plovdiv and Stara Zagora and drive via Haskovo to reach Edirne on the Turkish side of the border. In Edirne you will be very surprised by the low prices, even compared to Bulgaria!
The Mall Tsarigradsko Shosse
Although Iztok District does not have such a large selection of shops like Lozenets or Vitosha Districts, it does have the very modern ‘The Mall’ on Tsarigradsko Shosse.
The Mall has an impressive range of stores, a large food court (the best in Sofia in our opinion) and a cinema complex.
